My Vision
More than anything I continually show people that their ancestors can be found and honored. While many people were lost or killed overseas, their paper legacy (usually) remains. I am tenacious and creative in finding original names and town origins and love helping my clients reconnect with their ancestry through records, documents, court findings, images, newspaper articles, and related history. I customize my approach to deliver something meaningful for each client.
Regardless of origin or how long your ancestors have been in the US or Canada, I can help you discover the triumphs and struggles of the immigrants in your lineage. I’ve always felt that strengths and challenges are passed down in every family. You might as well have some real information about what actually happened to yours.
Sussman News
The Sussman News was compiled and published in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from March 1934 to December 1939 by three Sussman cousins, all descendants of Yisroel Zisman (1837-1902) and Hinda Rachel Levin (1834-1921). (Yisroel Zisman’s parents, Dov Ber Zisman and Fruma Rivka, were born about 1800 in or near Ponedel (Pandėlys), Lithuania):
Dr. Samuel Sussman (1895-1967) son of Louis (Laibzig) Zisman and Emma Meltzer;
Hirsh Laib Sussman (1890-1955), son of Berko Bertzig Zisman and Tone Fehler; and
Israel R. Sussman (1915-2005), son of Louis Sussman and Mollie (Dweire) Derman.
These three relatives, who were living in Philadelphia, created the biweekly newsletter to keep Sussmans in the U.S., Lithuania, and South Africa informed of each other’s activities, but also to share their family history (genealogy) in the Ponedel region (NE Lithuania).
The Sussman News is a valuable source of genealogical information for Sussman and Levin descendants. However, it has a more intrinsic importance. It provides a window into the daily life of Jews in several small Lithuanian shtetls in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

Debbie Shaw Profile and Rates
I started taping relatives in my 20s, but had to learn much and work strategically to figure out the original surnames and towns of my ancestors. I have attended (and continue to attend) many conferences and classes to gain knowledge and stay up to date. As a result, I have extensively documented and verified my eight great-grandparents (all of whom were born in Eastern Europe) to about 1800.
When working with clients, I’ve refined my research skills to create a streamlined approach that gets results based on what each person wants to discover.
